Dr. Freund earned his Bachelor of Science in Cell Biology and Neuroscience from Montana State University before going on to receive his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Washington School of Dentistry, one of the top dental programs in the Pacific Northwest.
In 2019, Dr. Freund took over the practice of Dr. Leslie Hayes, who served Bozeman patients for 30 years before retiring. Rather than simply stepping in and keeping things status quo, Dr. Freund has made it his mission to honor that legacy while bringing modern techniques and technology to every appointment. Think digital X-rays with reduced radiation exposure, same-day crowns, and equipment that prioritizes your comfort from the moment you sit down.
Dr. Freund believes that great dentistry is not just about fixing teeth. It’s about building relationships. He stays current through ongoing continuing education in cosmetic dentistry and evolving dental technology, which means you benefit from the latest in evidence-based care, delivered by someone who genuinely knows your name.
Outside the office, Dr. Freund is the kind of person Bozeman is full of: a devoted family man, a coffee enthusiast, a skier, and a die-hard college football fan. He serves on the executive committee of the Bozeman Bucks Legion Baseball Organization and is proud to be part of this community in every sense of the word. He’s also fluent in dad jokes.
Dr. Van Kirk brings over two decades of dental experience to the Altitude Dental team, along with a personal approach to patient care that goes well beyond the clinical. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Boise State University, where he also played collegiate basketball. The discipline and teamwork that came with balancing academics and athletics have shaped the way he leads and cares for patients to this day.
He went on to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, graduating in 2003, and has been practicing in the Treasure State since settling in Bozeman in 2007.
Dr. Van Kirk views dentistry as a calling, not just a career. His clinical approach is conservative and thoughtful, designed to support your long-term oral health rather than recommend more treatment than you need. He invests extensively in continuing education, studying alongside leading clinicians across the country, because he believes ongoing excellence is part of the commitment he has made to his patients.

Outside the office, faith and family are at the center of his life. He and his wife Holly are raising four daughters in Bozeman and are grateful to be part of a community that reflects the values they hold dear.
